Admissions Process

Our Admissions Process

Our admissions process is not about selecting students, but rather about ensuring there is a true “match” between school and family. We hold a deep conviction that the school should be an extension of the family’s values and a facilitator of the educational journey.

When values and expectations are aligned, the learning journey becomes much more meaningful and transformative.

Steps of the Process

1. Match Assessment (Online Stage)

The first stage of the admissions process is completing our Match Assessment, an online questionnaire consisting of 10 questions, including case studies about the Acton model and reflections on how the family views their children’s education. By answering the questionnaire, families are introduced to some of the core principles that guide our model, allowing this initial match to be established in a clear and transparent way.

This step is essential to identify the level of alignment between the family’s values and the proposal of Virtus – an Acton Academy.

2. Open House

A visit to the school to attend a presentation led by our Acton Owner, where families will have the
opportunity to learn in detail about:

  • the principles that ground the Acton Academy model;
  • the goals that guide our educational approach;
  • the learning methodology based on autonomy and responsibility;
  • the values we cultivate in our community;
  • in addition to touring the school facilities and learning about tuition.

3. Individual Interview

A moment to get to know the family better and evaluate the alignment between their values and expectations regarding education and the proposal of Virtus – an Acton Academy. We also listen about the child—their characteristics, interests, and learning style—to understand whether there is consonance with the principles that guide our learning community.

4. Age-Specific Stages

  • Sparks (Early Childhood Education): visit to the studio and conversation with the guide, allowing observation of the child’s initial adaptation and interaction.
  • Lower Elementary and beyond (Elementary School): diagnostic assessment in Writing and Reading (both in Portuguese and English), as well as Math, to better understand the stage of academic development.

5. Trial Day

As part of our admissions process for students applying from Lower Elementary onwards, the child spends a day in the studio, experiencing the daily routine of Virtus – an Acton Academy. This stage allows us to observe how they respond to an environment of autonomy, collaboration, and responsibility, while also giving them the chance to experience our learning model in practice.

6. Feedback Meeting

After the trial day, we hold a meeting with the family to share our observations, present impressions about the experience, and jointly align the next steps in the admissions process.
